Discover the Secret to Good Health
What’s the one recommendation in almost every diet plan, every guide to nutrition, and every fitness book?
Eat more fruits and vegetables
Even organizations such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the World Health Organization, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion agree. But as much as it’s preached, most people still don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables every day.
There is an easy, affordable way to get those fruits and veggies into your diet every day:

Fruits and vegetables are a great idea, but in a pill? Juicing is a lot better and much more economical than $40 per month. Even Dr. Mercola agrees with that. Of the published peer-reviewed studies on Juice Plus products, seven were funded and/or authored by the manufacturer, Natural Alternatives International , six were funded by the main distributor, NSA; two were funded by individual Juice Plus distributors; and one was conducted independently.
Since Fruit Plus is lacking in ß-carotene, ascorbic acid, vitamin E and folic acid, the company fortifies their product to give it some more punch. According to tests done on it by Consumer Lab’s, the vitamin C content of the four capsule regimen was 5 times higher than label claim. That means it contains 40% vitamin C by weight. According to the manufacturer-claimed amount, they should only contain about 8% vitamin C by weight. On the other hand, it contains less than 6% of the RDA for magnesium, potassium, zinc, copper, phosphorous, manganese, and chromium. Most multivitamins contain these ingredients in sufficient supply. Why is it that studies show that plasma levels of carotenoids levels like plasma lycopene and lutein+zeaxanthin are increased in people who eat real vegetables but not in those who take Fruit Plus products?
According to a study that analyzed the Juice Plus gummies (J Am Diet Association. 2002;102(11):1652-7), they are made almost entirely of corn syrup (85%) and gelatin (10%)s — note that the nutrients in the product are not part of the fruit and vegetables juices but are added after the fact. This is more than a bit misleading since they are sold as a solution for kids whose diets are lacking in real fruits and vegetables but the gummies are nothing more than vitamin-fortified candy. One placebo-controlled study conducted in 2002 found that Juice Plus Gummie candies did not significantly improve the antioxidant status of children, as indicated by negative results from 6 different antioxidant tests. The authors explained this by saying it was possible that the supplement did not contain enough of the proper antioxidants to make a significant difference or that the antioxidants extracted in the fruit/vegetable extract were not bioavailable. Advertising for the gummies also was cited by the Better Business Bureau for being false and misleading. Dr. Sears had to stop saying that they were the next best thing to eating fruits and vegetables.
Eating real fruits and vegetables will give you fiber that has been proven to reduce heart disease. If Fruit Plus contains any fiber, it has been artificially added back in and is obviously in very short supply. A high quality multivitamin contains more of the nutrients your body needs with better balance and a lower price tag. For more information, go to
